DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY (DMT)
A clinical intervention
utilised for re-storing emotional and physical integration, relational maturity, and for increasing the quality of well being in an individual’s life.
La Danza Movimento Terapia, attraverso l’uso creativo del movimento, promuove l’integrazione fisica e emotiva, la maturità affettiva e relazionale, e quindi la qualità di vita dell’individuo.
L’APID (Asociazione Prodessionale Italiana Danzamovimentoterapia) la definisce come una “modalità specifica di trattamento di una pluralità di manifestazioni della patologia psichica, somatica e relazionale, ma anche una suggestiva possibilità di positiva ricerca del benessere e di evoluzione personale.”
Dance Movement Therapy
APID, the Italian Association for the Association of Dance Movement therapy defines DMT as a “specific modality of treatment for various psychological, somatic and relational difficulties and pathology. Interventions are also for aiding the wellbeing and personal development of the individual”.
Theoretical orientation has its foundations in psychodynamic psychology (D. Winnicott, C.G.Jung) and in intersubjective psychology of (D. Stern, D.Siegel, A. Schore). Among the main theoretical foundations of DMT are the contributions of M. Chace, M. Whitehouse, T. Schoop, J. Adler, J. Chodorow and P. Lewis.
Dance Movement Therapy is used mainly for clinical purposes in those situations where there may be serious, psychological distress, however, it is also practiced for prevention and rehabilitation in its many forms. The inter active presence of the therapist and her involvement in the relationship with the patients or clients is of vital importance for the unfolding of the patient’s bodily expressiveness. The therapeutic relationship stimulates the potential development of health and favors a more harmonious growth of the person in different age ranges.
